Classes

April Class Series:

Lindy Hop Connections – The Joy of the Dance
(plus the “Frankie’s Lindy Chorus” routine)

Guy Caridi and Nancy Fry

Who is this class for? Students should feel comfortable with basic Lindy Hop moves, including Swingout, Open Basic, Lindy Circle, and Charleston. Questions? Please ask!

Who's teaching? Come learn from Seattle’s first Lindy Hop teachers! Guy Caridi and Nancy Fry are Savoy Swing Club’s original instructors from 1993 and have been called “the teachers of teachers.” They have been teaching dance together for 31 years and have developed an instructional style that is symbiotic, respectful, fun, and easy to learn from. Both started dancing during the 1980s before the social dance boom hit Seattle, and they would love to share their deep knowledge of dance with you!

What will I learn? The class will focus on leadable/followable social dance moves and on partnering techniques to make your dance connection smooth and easy. Guy and Nancy will reach back into their vast catalogue of Lindy Hop material for some classics as well as new moves for you to enjoy on the dance floor. As a bonus, they’ll be teaching “Frankie’s Lindy Chorus” – a gift from Frankie Manning to the worldwide dance community. This classic routine is a partnered dance featuring Frankie’s favorite Lindy Hop moves and jazz steps.

Practice Space (Tuesdays 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.)

•        Location: Lowdown Ballroom (628 11th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98102; look for a house with a small sign)
•        Cost: Free for members, $5 for nonmembers

The Savoy Practice Space is open at the Lowdown Ballroom every Tuesday evening starting at 8:30 p.m. Maybe you want to practice your Shim Sham or get a handle on the swingout. Maybe you want to film your Balboa turns, or just improvise without enraging your downstairs neighbor. Whether you're a veteran or a newcomer, if there's something you want to work on, this is the place.
